Steroid Scoreboard

So we don't have all the info, but based on the information we do have, it looks like the Yankees don't just have the highest payroll, but they also have led the league in cheating. With Leyritz' admission, my cheater scoreboard looks as follows (some players get credited to multple teams, however those with suspensions I have limited to the team they were with):

Yankees (6) - Canseco, Giambi, Sheffield, Grimsley, Lawton, Leyrtiz
Giants (3) - maybe Bonds, Bobby Estelella and Armando Rios
TEX (3) - Canseco (maybe Raffy but I'll count that as BAL) Agustin Montero, Carlos Almanzar
Seattle (3 - most suspensions) - Jamal Strong, Ryan Franklin, Mike Morse
Boston (3) - Canseco, Manny Alexander, Leyritz
Oakland (2-1/2) - Giambi (X 2??), Canseco, McGwire
Mets (2) - Felix Heredia, Yusaku Iriki
Baltimore (2) - Raffy, Grimsley
STL - Big Mac
Tor - Canseco
Anaheim - Leyrtiz
White Sox - Canseco
Braves - Sheffield (not sure of teams before here)
TB - Alex Sanchez
Colorado - Jorge Piedra
CLE - Bettencourt
Padres - Leyritz

Min - Juan Rincon
Arizona - Grimsley
KC - Grimsley
Dodgers - Leyritz

I'm sure I'm missing some.

  1. And thanks to Fox' ridiculous broadcast rules (blacking out extra innings on Saturdays), I will miss Lester's debut.

Quite a change from when Dino and I witnessed Papelbon's debut from the Monster seats.

  2. Leyritz just admitted to amphetamine use, right? If we're going to include that, it could become a LOONNNGGG list.

  3. Also add Ryan Franklin for the M's.

But yeah, amphetamine/banned supplements additions would take this over the edge.

And speaking of roiders, Giambi goes deep for the Yankees' first hit against Kirk Saarloos, in the 4th.

  4. Dang that was a quick post. He just hit it.

    Franklin is on the list.

  5. You include McGwire but not Sosa?

  6. I could have sworn last night that NESN said Leyritz had admitted to HGH, but then this morning all i could find was greenies.

And sure with uppers it could be a long list, hell we know it was 5-7% of players with roids in 04 when they knew they were being tested. But I'm going on known cheats. Technically I may need to add one to NY, Mil, and ATL for Jim Bouton. Didn't he admit to using greenies or did he just write about it?

One I did forget is Caminiti.

  7. I know I shouldn't even play this game, but Sosa? It might be true. It probably is. But I have not heard one single first hand implication on him.

  8. So what are you basing McGwire on? His taking of the 5th amendment? Canseco's book? I don't really think either of those count.

  9. I loved how all the talk this spring was that Bowa was working everyday with Cano and he was going to improve the defense and concentration.

With his error today, he is at .978 versus .975 and on pace for more errors. Granted in a few more games, but still not much improvement. and today's error was completely a focus issue.

  10. As much an idiot as Canseco is, so far no one has proven anything he has said to not be true.

  11. But I hear what you are saying. I can remove McGwire.

  12. Dude, who the hell is this Rouse guy? (I like him.)

  13. I don't know, but whatever you do, don't pick him up until after the Yankee series.

You beat me to the punch on Jaret Weaver. Of course that means his next line will be 3.2 8 6 6 3 2.

That's like the 3rd pitcher this year you got to right before me.

  14. Do you think you could ask to get into the clubhouse after the game and have your picture taken with him and some autographs in exchange for the ball? Or maybe tickets for the next Yankee-Red Sox game?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Good question - that would be pretty cool.

Were the other two Rodney and Benson? They're both available...

  16. My guess is that you could get the meeting/photo and an autograph, but they wouldn't let you in the clubhouse. They would want you to do it in a hallway right outside.

    It was Otsuka and Rodney.

  18. Wow. A Bryan Adams song in the Fox promotion music.

  19. Regarding Leyritz - the fact that I confused HGH and greenies just goes to show how immune I (we) have become to these stories. I saw the teaser during the game and merely kept the TV on until they mentioned the name.

  20. Why does Tito need to try to get 2.2 innings from Tavarez. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sorry, missed Franklin.

Seriously, couldn't we have just been thrilled to get more than an out or two of scoreless relief from Tavarez and left it at that? But no, we had to keep putting him out there until he fucked up... of course, not like Foulke did much better.

  22. Foulke is another issue. Two things stick out in my mind. TEX owns him. And is he still hurt. But yeah Tavarez was a head scratcher. He really is not a 2+ inning pitcher.

Earl - your Dutch team looked good. Aside from the ugly uniforms that is. Their goalie is pretty awesome. Unlike the baseball team, this team will likely play more than 3 games.

  23. Okay, so I finally found it in print. From today's NY daily news:

"Former Yankee Jim Leyritz, who says he took amephetamines and used HGH briefly in 2000, saw first-hand the detrimental effects: "After surgery in 2000 I tried it. I have prostate cancer in my family and that's the first thing they tell you to be careful of if you're going to take something like that," Leyritz says. "And sure enough after two weeks . . . after two weeks of taking it, trying to heal faster, my PSA levels shot through the roof. I quit taking it.""

  24. Ah - well there you go. Anyhoo, did you watch the inside the park HR by Swisher? I don't get that game down here. (Swisher's definitely one of those players I *really* hope isn't on anything.)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Papi!!!!!

I have not seen the Swisher replay yet. I'm sure I will as I just flipped over to the Oakland game.
